How it works

Before you train

Our front desk team is here to help you get set up, and every piece of rigging is regularly inspected by external rigging and equipment experts.

  • Check the timetable: Open Training uses the space not booked for classes
  • Ask the front desk to rig a hammock or straps, or adjust a lyra or trapeze to your height
  • Always train with a crash mat on aerial apparatus
  • Help yourself to balls, blocks, rollers, bands and weights, and put them back when you’re done

Bring your own

Train on your own apparatus.

Bring your silks, lyra, straps or rope and our front desk will rig it on one of our adjustable rigging points.

  • Bring all your own rigging hardware (studio rigging can’t be borrowed)
  • When the desk is unstaffed, please use studio equipment only
  • Want to leave it here? Apparatus storage is available monthly

Open Training questions

Can I use the studio hammocks and straps?

Yes. Ask our front desk to rig one up for you.

Can the height of a lyra or trapeze be adjusted?

Yes, just ask our front desk staff and they'll adjust it for you.

Can I train on my own apparatus?

Yes. Our front desk will rig it for you. Please bring all your own rigging hardware (spansets, carabiners and so on), as studio rigging can't be borrowed. When the desk is unstaffed, please use studio equipment only.

Can I use my own apparatus in class?

It's up to the coach and first in, first served. Only bring it if you're happy to share it with others in the class.

Do I need a crash mat?

Always use a crash mat on aerial apparatus. The only exception is low skills you've already trained with a coach, where your feet can touch the ground and you don't invert.

What equipment can I use?

Help yourself to the yoga balls, blocks, foam rollers, resistance bands, weights and more, and put them back when you're done. Equipment stored behind the silks near the kitchenette is privately owned. If in doubt, ask the front desk.

Can I hire the 4:1 pulley?

Yes, during opening hours for up to 4 people. An operator can be arranged for an extra fee. Check the Pricing page for the current hourly rate.

Is the equipment checked?

Yes. All rigging and equipment at TMA is regularly inspected by external rigging and equipment experts. If you spot a hole or tear in a silk, please tell the front desk.
